failure of governance
Hyderabad: Renowned journalist Mark Tully stated that the failure of governance is the reason for the present chaos during the state bifurcation.Speaking at the fourth Prof. E.G. Parameswaran Endowment lecture, Tully stressed on the need for revising policies that suit present requirements of India.“I don’t believe smaller states on their own produce better governance. I think better governance will come if there are better administrative reforms even in the legal system, so that governance improves,” he said.Tully said that the state bifurcation issue is giving an unfortunate impression of a split caused due to political reasons. “I think they should have taken more time in coming to a consensus. Initially, when the division of states was made on a linguistic basis, many people criticised it. But the concept was holding up well till the Telangana issue came up. Probably, it’s time for another state reorganisation commission.”
